News station opens in Melbourne soon.
The Metro Tunnel Project will bring more trains to your neighbourhood and decrease travel times by running the busy Cranbourne, Pakenham, and Sunbury lines through a new tunnel. By untangling the City Loop, more trains can run more often across Melbourne.
The Metro Tunnel will create a new end-to-end rail line from Sunbury in the west to Cranbourne/Pakenham in the south-east, with high-capacity new technology in Australia trains and 5 new subway stations.
The Metro Tunnel will create capacity on the network to enable more than a half a million additional passengers per week across Melbourne’s train network to use the rail system during the peak periods.

Arden
Sustainability features is one of the principals’ concepts involve in this station include tree pits and garden beds in the base plaza and the planting of more trees to capture stormwater, provide color and assist with air value, designs for the new station ensure that stormwater runoff is slowed and collected for re-use via rain gardens, street planters and other water-sensitive urban design. For example, drainage at the station has been designed to capture the natural flow of rainwater and distribute it into nearby garden beds.
Parkville Station
Parkville Station will be on the entrance of Victoria’s world-renowned learning, wellbeing, and research precinct. The Metro Tunnel will improve access to The University of Melbourne and services such as The Royal Melbourne Hospital, The Royal Women’s Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
The new Parkville Station will offer a direct train linking to the area for the first time and reduce pressure on local tramways and roads. It will link right away to Melbourne Airport in 2029.
Parkville Station will be built directly below Grattan Street in the middle of Royal Parade and Leicester Street and will have four entrances.
State Library Station
The new State Library Station will be situated under Swanston Street, in the middle of La Trobe Street and Franklin Street. It will incorporate a subway rail user connection to Melbourne Central Station, allowing commuters to appropriately interchange between Metro Tunnel and City Loop train services.
The new State Library Station will be a northern gateway to the city, and the nearby precinct will be transformed to provide better spaces for pedestrians, cyclists, and the area’s growing residential community.
Town Hall Station
The new Town Hall Station will connect passengers to Melbourne’s City Square, Federation Square and Flinders Street Station, will recover access to some of Melbourne’s most iconic and important tourist targets including Federation Square, Southbank, Arts Centre Melbourne, St Paul’s Cathedral and other culturally significant landmarks.
Anzac Station
That station has been intentionally placed to ease tension on the St Kilda Road/Swanston Street tram corridor, which is the hardest tram corridor in the world. It will benefit thousands of train and tram users, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists every day.
The station will support the continuing growth and redevelopment of the South Melbourne/Kings Way precinct and make it easier to visit some of Melbourne’s most valued parks and attractions – such as the Shrine of Remembrance, the Royal Botanic Gardens and Albert Park.
The Metro Tunnel will transform Melbourne’s train system, bring more trains to and from the suburbs and take cars off busy roads. The design will create capacity for more than a half a million additional passengers per week to travel during peak times across Melbourne’s train network.
