This 49-kilometer stretch of track in the middle of Kagaru and Acacia Ridge and Bromelton needs to be renovated to allow for the safe operation of double-stacked freight trains on the interstate route. Upgrades will be required both south and north of Kagaru, between Bromelton and Brisbane’s main intermodal terminal at Acacia Ridge. Dual gauge operations will be enabled by improvements to the existing track. Scenic Rim, Logan City, and Brisbane City are all included in the proposal.
The reference design stage of this project is presently in progress. In the course of this period, it will be conducting a number of studies and meetings with landowners and other important stakeholders in order to finalize project plans. In project news, still waiting for guidance on the project’s approval route. This will influence how the project will be evaluated and what measures will be taken next.

In early 2019, filed an Initial Advice Statement with the Queensland Coordinator-General (CG) requesting that the Kagaru to Acacia Ridge and Bromelton project be designated as a “coordinated project” under the State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971.
A declaration would have necessitated the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The CG decided not to designate the project as a “coordinated project” in 2021. Now working with the Department of Transportation and Main Roads to figure out how to get the project approved. This will also reveal whether more study is necessary.
