Interlocking is the device which helps in proper and safe driving of the signals. With an increase in number of points and speed of the trains, it has become necessary to reduce the error on the part of human beings (i.e. cabin-man) and take all the safeguards to prevent the chances of catastrophes. This is done by interconnecting mechanism which makes the arrangements fool-proof.

There are two basic principles regarding the methods of safeguarding the way

Route: The whole path involving the locations of movable track elements and track clear detection is only confirmed upon request, normally when establishing the route prior to clearing the signal. The principal ‘route’ can provide almost all the protective purposes, these are following train, opposing train and flank protection and safety all movable track elements, but it also contributes to speed targeting at movable track elements, but it also contributes to speed targeting at movable track elements. It can even incorporate level crossings and obstacle detection.

Block Information: After a train has cleared the block section, the message confirming this is generated and transmitted the entry point of the section. There, this information is stored, to permit the later entry of another train. The principle ‘block information’ can only provide following and opposite protection. Therefore, it is basically applicable to open line sections.

One of the great contributors in the development and optimization of the train lines is the Hitachi company known worldwide for its great contributions in the field.

Functional and operational tests were conducted out at Hitachi’s laboratory in Munich and witnessed by Deutsche Bahn and the German Federal Railway Authority.

These confirmed that the technology was friendly with German standard communication interfaces (SCIs).

This is a major milestone in Germany’s Fast Track Programme / Schnellläuferprogramm (SLP).

Its objective is to bring new digital solutions to the market in a very short time by simplifying processes and promoting close co-operation between suppliers and operators throughout.

Now the technology has been approved it be used to help DB digitise the German rail network.

Over the next 20 years it plans to upgrade the entire network’s signalling equipment with digital interlocking and ETCS as part of the Digitale Schiene Deutschland (Digital Rail Germany) programme. Hitachi Rail will be responsible for renewing and upgrading the signalling on the Gera-Weischlitz line in Saxony, which includes seven stations across 60 kilometres of single track.

HItachi

Interlocking is well-defined as the system achieved through mechanical orRead More

[1
5,9,11,7,8,4,6,3,10
Interlocking is well-defined as the system achieved through mechanical or electrical devices by which it can be safeguarded that before a signal is taken to “OFF” position, for the direction, which the signal controls, is appropriately set and held, and at the similar time all the signals and points, the operation of which may lead to conflicting arrangements, are locked..
